Social Capital and YouTube--Week 3
I enjoyed watching the Toddler Time videos from the New York City Library branches. It gave me an idea of the format to follow for working with little ones. Although I do have some experience as a preschool teacher and have grandchildren who are toddlers, I've never worked with toddlers in a group setting with parental involvement. I would like to do a type of Mommy/Daddy & me program, but 99% of the parents work during the week and cherish their Saturdays. That's why I now travel to day care facilities to do library story time and hand out flyers about the books we read and about new books at the library. Below are two of the library videos that I watched.

Next I had fun checking for new ideas for library parade floats. Such imagination! I loved the one from Arlington Heights Library but it is way beyond our capabilities. But very cool.

And then I found this one where a group of wacky Bookettes dance along the parade route to a lovely library tune. Made me want to get up and dance...or not.

And this one was a little more realistic as something that we could do...depending on the theme. But it makes it more interesting than just taping signs to a trailer cart and piling kids in as we do. However, it usually is over 100 degrees here on the 4th of July and we are more concerned with keeping cool than anything else. Most library parade riders end up throwing ice cubes at each other by the end of the route...

I can see that YouTube could have some great marketing uses for a library and be a wonderful way to share what is happening. I also liked the idea of having tutorials available at the walk-up station computer for eBook reader use which someone mentioned in class. That wouldn't be too hard to do.
Thanks for all the helpful information!
