Since we both love the TV show NCIS, Barrett & I decided to look that up in ProQuest. (Yes, probably not the best research topic, but it sounds like something that someone in our library would ask!) We found some articles in Good Housekeeping, Variety and Macleans. The source information is very detailed. I like the preview feature to help wean out the best resources and the ability to narrow the type of source for the best information for the specific research.
I also looked up vascular dementia, to be a little more "scholarly" and found out some interesting facts in articles in popular magazines such as U.S. News & World Reports and also in peer reviewed magazines such as Journal of Nursing Scholarship.
I read M Schipman's blog on ProQuest and was clued into using this database for personal research into things like Consumer Reports. Thanks for the idea! My husband was really excited that we could research stuff that we want to buy without having to buy the magazine. How nice!
In the list of publications Barrett & I looked up Highlights for Children and opened the magazine for January 2012. We learned 5 Ways to Stop a Fight. All the articles in the magazine were listed so that we could choose to look at what we wanted. We also tried to say the tongue twister. That was funny. Then we did all the riddles with Barrett looking for the answers. This was cool. And we didn't have to pay for it and buy the magazine! We really loved this magazine. Barrett wished that they had Sports Illustrated for Kids but we didn't find that in the publications list!

Hi, Diane & Barrett! (we should probably offer Barrett his own CE certificate.) Good report. We like ProQuest for its breadth of popular, trade, & scholarly materials. Since it is aimed at HS and above, you did well to find something like Highlights. Yes, all these are available 24/7 for free! Thanks for your comments.
