Irreplaceable Treasures

On Saturday I was blessed to celebrate with my dear friend, Bernice, who turned 100 years old that day.  I've been fortunate to be able to listen to her life's stories for the past seven years that I have known her.  Although her vision is a bit dim, her mind is sharp and she can still maneuver very quickly with a walker!  In fact, she informed me quite proudly that during a recent fire alarm at her assisted living residence she made it down the stairs alone and to safety.
She had been living at home and caring for herself until a year ago when she had a fall and her family became concerned about her living alone.  At age 98 she was still driving...but just in town.
I love to hear her tell tales about her early life in South Dakota on the prairie.  She is a wonderful resource of living history and I'm so happy to have her in my life.  Happy Birthday, Bernice!
