Memories. Curse or Blessing?

In a very odd community, a boy by the name of Jonas is a eleven. At the ceremony when he becomes a twelve he gets the assignment of being a receiver. The receiver goes and meets with The Giver and The Giver transfers memories about the true feeling or warmth, coldness, love, pain, sorrow, happiness, and hatred to Jonas. At first he receives the painless memories and he experiences so many new things such as snow, sledding, sunlight, color, and love. But, then he gets a painful memory...coldness. The memory is such a horrible memory that it causes his whole body to ache.

All of Jonas' life he has thought about how wonderful his dad's job is as a nurturer. Then when a set of identical twin boys are born his father must release the lightest baby. Jonas would like to see what happens when a baby get released but he must attend training with The Giver. So, as a reward for working hard The Giver lets Jonas see what his father had done. After Jonas had watched his father kill the baby that had to be released he was speechless. The next day when Jonas felt able to face his father he heard some very drastic news. A child, named Gabe, that they had been watching over night, his father had to release him. Jonas was very upset and had to find a way to save the child's life.

When Jonas take a life threatening adventure they find the true meaning of love. Will the find the world where the memories come to life? Will they use the memories to help them? Or will they lose the courage to keep going? Read The Giver by Lois Lowry to find the most wonderful story about love, pain, and sorrow. I personally couldn't put this book down until I had it finished.
