Okay, so I missed the twitter part of Lesson 2 (where was my head?). So I did it today. I have already "twittered" because I subscribe to a free weight loss site (Sparkpeople.com) where we all develop our own web page and it has a twitter or status update spot embedded in it. I get embarrassed about twittering because I can never find anything to say. Life is pretty much routine most days.
I did enjoy the RSS information given in this lesson. Never really understood how RSS worked. As I have google mail account personally as well as for library, I was able to set up a reader account very easily. This will be helpful in my personal life as I have several extended family members living out of state who blog frequently and I can put them all in one location where I can easily check on their updates. For the library I put in the Cornerstone and the Reading Group Guides blogs. I'll add others as I find them.
To find feeds easily, I used the www.allmyfavs.com site (which someone from SD library system kindly shared with us...just can't remember who just now!). We use this as a quick find for folks looking for specific information in a variety of categories.
The search at the Google Reader was also helpful.
I'm still trying to think how this would help at the library for our patrons. I'm not sure. Right now we only have one working computer as the others had hard drive deaths this summer and the board is trying to decide if they should repair or replace. Meanwhile, that one computer is getting quite a workout!
